Update About the iPhone iOS 4.2 Jailbreak & Unlock

With iOS 4.2 release day right around the corner, there are a few things that you need to be reminded of. Most jailbreak veterans out there probably know this by now, but I’m worried that the jailbreak novices will make mistakes they might regret sooner rather than later.
The Dev Team just posted an update on their blog about what to expect, and most importantly about what to do and what not to do. Here is a quick summary…
  • As confirmed before, all devices on all iOS firmwares can be jailbroken
  • The untethered status of the jailbreak depends mostly on Comex to extend it to iOS 4.2. So far, his hack works with iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.2 beta 3. There is good reasons to believe we will have an untethered 4.2 jailbreak.
  • There will be an unlock for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. If you own one of those devices and want to unlock, make sure you do not update to iOS 4.2 wen it comes out. Wait until we give you the green light.
  • So far there is no unlock for the iPhone 4 on iOS 4.2, but apparently a few holes have been found. We’ll know more after 4.2 comes out. Again, if you rely on an unlock for your iPhone 4, do not update to iOS 4.2.
These are the main points. As usual, it’s always safe to save your SHSH blobs if you haven’t already done so.

What iPhone iOS 4.2 Feature Are You Looking Forward to the Most?

The folks over at TiPB have posted a nice and handy walk-through guide for iOS 4.2 features for iPhone, detailing all the new features expected in the latest iOS rollout, due this month (maybe as early as this week?)
While it’s not a major overhaul, there are several features iOS 4.2 is bringing that enhance the user experience – especially for iPad users. So which 4.2 features are you looking forward to getting the most on your iPhone?
Personally, I can’t wait to utilize AirPrint and also the new text message tones which can be assigned to individual contacts. One’s a major new feature, the other a desperately needed tweak.
Of course, I won’t be enjoying either feature until I know it’s safe to jailbreak 4.2, which shouldn’t be too much longer after the release. So let us know in the comments which feature you’re looking forward to the most! Or if there’s a feature you’re STILL waiting for, vent about that, too!

iOS 4.2 Jailbroken on Arrival

When Apple releases the final version of iOS 4.2 to the public next month, you shouldn’t have to wait long before a jailbreak is released. The jailbreak might even be released on the same day that Apple makes iOS 4.2 available to the masses.

A couple of days ago, iOS hacker iH8sn0w posted an image of an iPad, one obviously on firmware iOS 4.2, running the jailbreak only mobile terminal app. As we reported earlier, due to the nature of the jailbreak, the quick turnaround time should be something we should see going forward, because one of the exploits is a hardware exploit that, according to hackers, can’t be patched…
